Collar discs were worn by everyone in the US army. Each soldier were supposed to wear two on the uniform at all times. What was on the disc was dependent on the persons ranking in the army. On the right side of the collar, everyone had the official USA disc so everyone knew they were actually US soldiers.
The disc with the two guns and the number or letter on top of or below meant that they were in infantry. This disc that says what insignia the person belongs to is always on the left side of the collar.
Trench Headgear
In WW1 the U.S wore the garrison cap when they were at battle. When they were fighting in trenches, they wore trench headgear. This trench headgear was black and had a chinstrap. Instead of wearing the chinstrap the right way (tucked under the chin) they decided to wear it tucked on the back of the head.

The Tunic
This was the basic tunic for American soldiers. They were made in France and England and were used as a jacket over their underclothing. The tunics were made of wool to keep the troops warm. They had pockets on the chest and lower hips. The tunic had a high collar and shoulder straps that were the same for all the different soldiers. Buttons were used to close the tunic and were also fashionable. They had the president's seal on everyone of the buttons. |
